A beautiful Venetian scavo glass flush-fitting ceiling lantern, entirely hand-made on the famous glass-making island of Murano. The amber diffuser gently diffuses the light for a soft and warm glow.

The mould for this classic light fixture is first fashioned from bronze wire. The glass-master next blows the molten glass into the frame where it expands into the lovely curved shape you see here.

A special chemical is then used to erode parts of the surface of the glass, to give it the appearance of having been having been buried for a long time, and then dug up. The Italian word for 'dug up' or excavated is scavo - hence the name of this popular finish, perfect for country homes and kitchens.
